Emnes pleased with Boro stay - Date: 4 Nov 2011
Middlesbrough striker Marvin Emnes has admitted he is pleased he opted to stay with Boro instead of signing for Premier League outfit Swansea.
Swans boss Brendan Rogers was keen to sign the Dutchman over the summer after impressing while on loan at the Liberty Stadium last season, before
Emnes decided to stay in the North East.
Boro boss Tony Mowbray has been the chief benefactor of that decision, with Emnes finding the net ten
times already this season in eighteen games to help push Boro up into 3rd place in the Championship, six points behind league leaders
Southampton.
The 23-year-old insists he isn’t disappointed to be missing out on the Swans Premier League adventure, because he has high
hopes Boro will soon be joining them.
“I am glad I stayed now, even though Swansea are in the Premier League, because we will be
soon.” He said.
The former Sparta Rotterdam forward was honest enough to admit he didn’t have the easiest start to his Boro career
having been snapped up by Gareth Southgate, and also revealed that he came close to signing for four time European Champions Ajax instead of joining
Boro.
“Ronny Rosenthal was an agent, he got my number and told me there was a club in the Premier League who wanted me. Three weeks later
I met Gareth and it all happened soon after that.” he said.
“But Ajax wanted me too and that was my club. I’m from Rotterdam
and people from there hate Ajax but I love them. People who know about football, how it should be played, support Ajax.”
He added of his
trouble to break into the first team: “Even on those cold nights I said to myself that my chance would come. Every day after training I had to
tell myself I would make it.”
Elsehwere, why not get your hands on a
Brazil Shirt maybe you could get Juninho on the back?!
