It is bonkers, but because it is based on facts rather than people's views and understanding. You can statistically manipulate figures whatever way you want.
England were the 2nd best team in the Euros because they didn't lose a single game. Only bettered by Spain.
Or
We are just marginally better than Denmark because they won 1 and we won 2.
But
Denmark beat Holland so we are better than Holland.
Holland were runners up on the world cup, behind Spain. So although we are not better than Spain we are the second best team in the world.
But hang on, we beat Spain not so long ago...

rankings in team sports are all rubbish . european teams have just played in a major comp so they get more points and go higher , when the s americans play in a big comp they will rise. im never sure why people report it so much it means nothing.

Another reason why England have gone up is because all the points from Euro 2008 have been taken off, so because England weren't in the tournament they haven't lost anything while teams like the Netherlands will have lost quite a few.

Plus with it being based entirely on results, its not that surprising because we've only lost 3 in 28 and were unbeaten at the euros technically, which is what it considers.

I was directed to a different ranking system when people were complaing england were to high on reddit. ELO or something I think? Anyway, even with that ranking we were 5th.

We may not be good but based on results its not that surprising.

With brazil not playing any competitive matches because they're hosting 2014 you can expect to see them continue falling.
