worst/ best signings
seems though theres alot of these types of threads about at the minute, thought i'd give this one a go.

top 3 best and worst signings in your memory of the club

best:
juninho, first time around, was only little but i did see him lol
rochemback- if i rmember rightly it was a low fee and played well for the club
a third one is pretty hard, mark swarchzer? was a good servant to the club.

worst: now we'v had a few bad ones
1st: Alfonso Alves, didnt look terrible but not worth 12m, maybe 1.5 at the most
2cnd: ricardinho- the guy signed for us and never made one first team appearence
3rd: lee dong fook or chris killen or doriva or stockdale or flood or southgate (as manager)

No longer in bishop

RE: worst/ best signings
Best
Juninho- he created PR in the club around the globe that we never had. That and what a player he was.
Southgate- I was sceptical when we first signed mainly as I found it hard to forgive for Euro 96. But he was definitely the best captain and defender I've seen in my time as a fan.
Mendieta- for a long time he was my favourite player so when he signed for us it was a dream come true. When played in central midfield, he was quality but managers seemed to mistake his lack of pace as him being a right winger. I accept he won't be anywhere near most peoples lists but just the fact not only did I see my favourite player live, I saw him in a Boro shirt.

Worst
Alves- when he first signed and his first half season I thought we had signed a gem but got worse and worse in his second season. Then went awol before we finally got rid of him leaving a massive hole in our finances.
I won't say Mido as basically we knew what he was like before hand and so didn't surprise anyone. But then again cost a massive amount of money.
Euell- one player I did not like and it annoyed me to see us linked with him but to then sign him and then see him in the team just baffled me in every way.
Gook Lee- although signed on a free he made me believe I still could make it at the top level he looked like he'd never played football before each game I saw him in.

To be fair to Alves, most of our team were garbage that season, we went down Tongue

RE: worst/ best signings
I can't see how any player that started in Carling Cup win could be brandished as one our three worst signings. Doriva came in on a free transfer and played his part in winning our first major trophy. At times during that season I thought he deserved a start over Georgie boy on form.
Just because he was a Brazilian that didn't do step overs, doesn't warrant that criticism.

Couldn't pass for sh1t ?
Clearly your right, as a midfielder without passing ability would never gain 30+ caps for Brazil, whilst playing for some of Europes top clubs (Porto, Celta Vigo, Sampdoria).
