The daily mail (yes sorry) has stated that there will be a premier league u21 league with CAT 1 academy teams from champo as well, including boro. I think it will give our young players some great experience. Any thoughts?

I see quite a few clubs have confirmed their category one status. Should we be expecting an announcement on whether we have gained it or not soon Powlay?

RE: boro u21
Think there is enough football on the telly during the season in an over saturated tv market.

23 teams, 44 games seems excessive for a development league and is a major problem with injuries, fatigue, travelling and leaves little room for bringing a player into the first team.
So it will be in group stages around 28 games for a seasons fixtures.

Hence the "development" teams, no reserve league last season
Which we will still need for players over 21 or those coming back from injury.

Still can turn out to be expensive for the smaller teams Middlesbrough included.
However would enjoy watching the younger players if they played at the Riverside, or Billingham Synthonia for a few quid.

Hope they will be more forgiving in regards to subs.

RE: boro u21
We are listed in group three so it's evidence we have it.

Not necessarily sackrobson. Apparently Crystal Palace have not been granted Cat 1 but because they applied for it they are placed in this new under-21 league for now. I could be wrong though, that's just what I've heard from various forums.

RE: boro u21
i'm pretty sure powlay had said the other day on another thread that we had cat 1 status, remember him saying something along the lines of "the club sitll haven't announced we have cat 1 status" when talking about the official website

RE: boro u21
if it's done properly as a league i can see it becoming a very good way of giving our youngsters experience of playing in a proper league ready for them to step up into the first team particularly as its national so they will get the away day experience of travelling pre match prep, rather than travelling 20 minutes down the road to play some local side.

Proud To Be Boro
