Welcome

Welcome Ladies, Gentlemen and not-so-gentle men to the first match day thread of the 2012/13 season!!!
Here’s to a season full of thrills, spills and frivolities following the good ship Boro! Will Captain Mogga, through hard work and endeavour, lead us to the promised land and everlasting glory?!? Or will he become stranded on a far away island and killed to death by crazy Hawaiians?!? Either way, he will surely be fondly remembered in Teesside folklore forever more… (Although he’s probably more likely to get a decent statue if he opts for the latter…)

Details

Teams – Bury (The Shakers) V Middlesbrough (The Movers Boro)
Location – Gigg Lane Stadium (Bury)
Competition – The Capital One Cup (1st Round)
Date – Sat 11th August 2012
Kick off – 3.00 pm
Referee - ????????

Odds
from William Hill:

Bury (TBC) Draw (TBC) Boro (TBC)

Recent Games

Boro:
Falkirk 3 – 7 Boro
Boro 5 - 0 Tottenham XI
Hartlepool 2 – 2 Boro
Carlisle 1 – 2 Boro
York 1 - 2 Boro

The Boro have had a decent pre-season, remaining unbeaten and scoring plenty of goals in the process. True, the opposition has generally been of lower league standard, but that didn't stop us losing to carlisle and darlington last year... That no major injuries have been picked up is another bonus (touch wood) for mogga's team.

Bury:
Radcliffe Borough 1 – 6 Bury
Bury 0 – 1 Burnley
Morecambe 0 – 2 Bury
Bury 1 – 5 Birmingham
Bury 1 - 4 Wigan Athletic

The league 1 shakers have had an indifferent preseason, losing heavily to teams from higher up the footballing pyramid and beating a couple of teams who play at a lower level than them. They also held their own against a championship side in Burnley, despite being narrowly defeated.
Stephen Schumacher (CM and captain) seems to have been a standout player for Bury in preseason, at the helm of many of their attacking moves.

Injury/Availability News

Boro -

Smile – Jonathon Woodgate, Kevin Thomson, Rhys Williams and Macaroon Zemmama are all still alive and kicking (at the time of writing), which was beyond even the most optimistic boro fan’s expectations at the start of preseason...

Sad - Inspector Haroun was taken off in the Carlisle game after 20 minutes, apparently he hurt his knee after 5 minutes played, but his nervous system took so long to transmit the pain signals up the rest of his gangly legs that he didn’t feel the injury for another 15 minutes…

- Hard-knock Hines was also taken off in the Carlisle game after picking up a slight injury.

- Zemmama will still be on his religiously-induced hunger strike until the 18th august and is therefore unlikely to be involved.

Bury:

Sad - Efe Sodje was taken off after 5 minutes in the morcambe game with a suspected fractured cheekbone. The Nigerian extra-in-pirates-of-the-caribbean-lookalike ( http://images.rivals.net/07/11/460x238/E...601094.jpg ) defender who is 39 (at least that's what one of his birth certificates says...), will be a loss to the central defence of Bury.

The Un(ger)-Official Match Preview

Whilst tony mowbray will doubtless be keen to progress in the COC, I reckon this will be a tough match against a mid-table league 1 team. Boro have had some decent preseason results, however the first couple of matches played in anger are usually fairly unpredictable. I'm going for a scrappy 2-1 win for mogga's men.

Possible Team (my stab in the dark anyway…)

-------------Steele--------------

---Leadbitter--Thomson—Bailey---
---Ledesma--Mcdonald--Emnes----

Talking Points

- What team do you reckon the Boro will put out? (good luck with this one Tongue gold star for anyone who gets it spot on)

- What team would you like to see?

- What result will we see?

- Do you want to progress in the COC or would you rather we go out now and save ourselves for the tricky championship season ahead?

- How far do you think we could realistically get in the competition this year?

- Who else has missed the rollercoaster ride that is following the Boro this close season?!?!

- GO, GO, GO!

Picked my tickets up today, I'm taking my son to his first Boro game (He supports Man Utd but in fairness he was born in Manchester & lives there).

I'm hoping for a comfortable 3-0 win.

Wonderful presentation BU. Are those badges home made? I'll probably wait until after the final friendly before giving my views!
