Attendances disappointment
Both home games so far have been around the 15,500 mark and is disgraceful considering the active and fruitful transfer window we had and the feel good feeling surrounding the club.
I know the other side to the coin where people say nobody has got money for tickets but im sure if we were topping this league everybody would soon find the money. I can see us struggling to break the 20,000 mark regularly this season which isn't going to help the players playing in a half empty stadium where the atmosphere doesnt travel. Hopefully if we get a positive result v Millwall the "fair weather" fans will see us close to the top and turn up but still then it will be to the big games a la Hull on boxing day. Its incredibly frustrating as the fans finally have a team they can be proud of for the first time in 5/6 years full of returned greats(Woodgate) and an endless supply of homegrown younsters giving it their all yet they still stay at home watching Soccer Saturday instead. Sorry if it sounds like a bit of a rant but its been my biggest disappointment of this season especially considering we can get close to 4,000 fans to travel to Barnsley to watch a match yet theres only 15,500 that will travel a few miles to watch them play. Am I the only one frustrated by it, surely not? |

Well I don't know about anyone else butte only reason I wasn't there is because it's the last weekend before payday in a long august. I'd expect our next home game to be much busier Aquarius Doors - Roller Shutters and Garage Doors - http://www.aquariusdoors.co.uk Armstrong Accountancy - Professional Local accountancy practice - http://www.armstrongaccountancy.co.uk |

RE: Attendances disappointment
Disgraceful is a bit harsh but I was disappointed, kept expecting the ground to fill up more and by kick off you could tell there wasn't many in. I was expecting around 18000.
The talk of fair weather fans annoys me because people want them to come back, but when they do people have a go at them saying they only come when we're playing well, but does it really matter as long as they're there?? If people come, they come. If they don't, they don't. Get over it. |

We'll be the next Darlington! For years it was the team that was letting the fans down but now when theres a team to be proud of theres only 15,500 fully commited fans that turn up which is a disgrace on the fans that dont bother. The fans that have been there the past two games will see that the team deserves far more than the recent attendances and must surely get frustrated soon with these "fair weather" fans. |

RE: Attendances disappointment
I will *** you all off but think Middlesbrough's old fans will never return and the new fans wouldn't be stupid enough to waste £28 a game to turn up to a match with 15k fans in a stadium that holds 34k fans plus I've never been to a Boro game were the fans ain't a bunch of *** morons. Utb though

RE: Attendances disappointment
Who said I was proud at that attendance? I said I was disappointed but there's nothing we can do about it apart from hope they return soon. Think you're a little over heated mate, simmer down. 15,500 is okay for the championship, and i know its cliche, but its a fact that as a town we're one of the most affected from the recession. People have their reasons, and whatever they may be I respect it and I really hope they do come back but I'm not going to come online spouting my mouth off about them not going and I'm not going to call them out as being fair weather fans when/if they do come back.
End of the day unless you want to go around peoples houses campaigning for them to come back you can't do anything about it so just enjoy they great football they're missing. |

Utb though I actually agree with you as fans like to go to enjoy the atmosphere so they wont pay £28 a game to sit in a more than half empty stadium. Where did I say you were proud at that attendance? making convos up are we haha? :/ Im not overheated at all, how can I be after being stood in a half empty stadium for over 2 hours lol. Yes the recession has affected this area more, but im sure many of these people who didn't go to the match today will be drinking their body weight in alcohol down town tonight. And I know I cant do anything about it, even the late Kim Jong-Il would have struggled. |

RE: Attendances disappointment
We all know Boro do not get it when trying to get bums on seats and AV wrote on this subject not so long ago http://anthonyvickers.boroblogs.co.uk/20...t-sem.html so this really is an on going problem,
Blackburn had less than 14k at their game yesterday! There must be many fans who have had to move away due to work circumstances and who like me have to consider spending over 100 pounds just for travel expences The forum members "Friend" |
