Scoring goals or lack of them and Curtis Main

Just a little discussion thread until we have the next M/D thread up and running.

Was pleased to read Mogga's comments regarding killing teams off by getting a second goal quickly so that a certain amount of pressure is taken off the team.

Whilst others in the league seem to score in hatfuls it does seem that we have problems with that indeed it has been a while since we can say "that was a comfortable win"

Is it an inherant problem for Boro or do members feel that perhaps this season we will see Boro putting the opposition to the sword and watch our team win by more than 2 goals in any given game.

I realise that this could open to an extent the Skippy debate but I hope that we do see the team handing out thrashings at times this season and why....cos if others can do it so why not Boro???

to be fair this year, we've had games where we've scored 2 or 3 often but it seems the games we don't we don't score any, it seems to be plenty or none.... coincidently it seems to be when luke williams is playing that we score goals, been very impressed with him so far this year.

did he play up front yesterday?

Our average this season is well up. Its our goals against we need to worry about at the moment. Maybe bikey will solve that

For me its been an issue since Southgate the amount of games where we would score a goal and then play an all out defend approach for the rest of the game which more often than not backfired. This was the reason that our attendances have dropped and in a way I do think this was still the case last season as if some of our players still had this mindset instilled.
One thing I have liked this season is the fact we have had a number of different players chipping in and yesterday was a game over previous seasons we'd have not got 3 points. All we lack is a 20 goal a season striker this year for me.

we were in cruise control and 2-0 up against Palace but after they scored their penalty we went from a fluent passing team to a 9 man defence, we have to be braver and keep playing the same way, somehow a physche has developed in the players that we have to hang on at the end of matches. I can't remember when it started but it seams along time ago

I would absolutely love to see us win by 2-3 goal margins in most of the games, and I believe we have the team to pull that off, but the Championship is a peculiar league with some crazy results every week, and a lot of the games tend to be very close.

As soon as all our new players gel and players like Miller, Thomson, Carayol and Juke get up to full speed I think we will see a few more goals. This will also be enhanced be the continuing development of players like Reach and Williams in particular. We have so many offensive alternatives atm it's hard to see how we can avoid scoring

Good post BD and hope you are right. After all we all saw just how important goal difference last season and there was a time when our lack of goals could have been our undoing though I appreciate it did not actually come down to that!

I see the Gazette has pretty much confirmed what we already know about Main being allowed to go out on loan but no reference to Park in the same article!

Somewhat conflicting reports. Does anyone know if this injury is true or are sky just making up stuff again?
