The 'Joe Bennett transfer money' - re-investment
I've seen it in a few threads and rather than clog them up seperatly i thought i would create a thread in regard to it.

It's been said often that Mowbray should re-invest the Joe BEnnett fransfer money, he should buy this or that.

Do people think that all transfer incomes sit in a seperate account to the club funds and get used for transfers only?

Do people no see the re-investment of incomes happening before their eyes?

Adam Reach new 4 year deal, Ben Gibson new 4 year deal, Andre Bennett 3 year pro deal, Jordan Jones pro deal.

Before the Bennett income there were deals for Seb Hines, Rhys Williams, Jason Steele, even Bennett himself. This is money investment.

Maybe there will be £2m (which is what the up front payment for Bennett was) for the manager to spend in January, maybe there isnt. But people need to see re-investment of money as more than just buying in player x on a y year deal.

Luke Williams is rumouured to be next to get a new long term deal, fantastic that the club are getting players tied down and not allowing them to walk their deals down and move for nothing.

This to me is part of the Bennett money being re-invested, if we have nothing to spend in January i wont be up in arms. I will be happy knowing that we have locked down some more talent, we are a championship club we rely on income from sales and a fantastic charman to keep the club functioning.

Even if no one had got a new deal, i wouldnt expect all of the incomes from sales to be used for future outgoings. Debts need to be serviced. And money may be used towards these.

So.....now whats peoples thoughts on the 'Joe Bennett transfer money being re-invested'? :Angry

Well said. As most of us seem to realise we have large debts not cash surpluses sitting there doing nothing. Extending these key young players contracts shoud definitely be the priority with anything spare we have.

We should just put all the Bennett money on us to get beat the next match and throw the game. Then use the profits to buy players in January. Big Grin

Very good point, the deals for our young lads sounds like very good investments!

Am I right in thinking that in the majority of cases there is also agent fees additional to any deals that are done?

no signing fee's that im aware of.

The agents costs usually come as a % from the player.

RE: The 'Joe Bennett transfer money' - re-investment
good points powlay. i also remember mogga saying that the bennett money was to make up for the several incoming 1st team deals in the summer where we perhaps overstretched the budget a bit (for carayol, ledesma, friend etc). therefore the deal was balancing the books a bit. Pre-investment if you like Tongue

RE: The 'Joe Bennett transfer money' - re-investment
The problem for me is that clearly we didnt NEED to sell bennett. If we NEEDED to sell players we would have had him out the door for a lower price earlier in the summer or we wouldnt have signed the players that we did. We weren't relying on the money.

So, when the offer came in, it probably was too good to refuse, but it just feels like we've lost a fantastic, homegrown academy prospect when it wasn't necessary, and get nothing in return apart from further running costs (which while good, isn't exactly exciting and doesn't make up for losing a young star- especially when it was clearly not necessary to sell).

Thats my view on it, though all your points make a decent amount of sense too.

RE: The 'Joe Bennett transfer money' - re-investment
The problem is that there was a bit of a lack of communication between the club and the fans throughout the summer as Mowbray said if we sell anybody then we will invest money back into the team so a large portion of fans were expecting us to invest the Bennett money back into new signings on the last few days so were left disappointed. Then after Bennett was sold he said that he stretched the budget a bit too much earlier in the summer which is fair enough in my view as if Mowbray is happy with the squad without new players then he has my full faith. And at least he can go into the January window and be able to look around to see if theres any bargains to be had like Friend and Carayol.

But I think the game against Leicester highlighted the lack of wingers Mowbray had in the squad when the window closed as without Carayol we dont have a hope in hell of getting out of this league. Mowbray has a squad overloaded with the same type of CM's and hardly any natural wingers; Carayol-(injured) Reach-(currently injured but doesn't like to play him away from home so only available for half the games!) Park-(not in Mowbrays plans at the moment). Theres was a question mark over whether Ledesma can play right wing but he was fit on Saturday and was sat on the bench so Mowbray must not think he can.

McEachran is ok playing there at the moment but it only works if theres a lightning fast winger down the left like Carayol, otherwise we have 4 CM's who all pass the ball sideways and were going to get nowhere near their goal. Hopefully Mowbray can figure out a formation and system to give us width and pace against Derby so we dont just pass the ball side to side for 90 minutes like we dont want to get near their goal.
