Charlie Wyke
Apparently highly sought after.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/...ke-on-loan Would definately be a good thing to get him out on loan again. Was just wondering (mainly from Powlay and others who watch the underage/reserve teams), how close the fella is to first team football? He's obviously scored a hell of a lot in lower levels, but the step up is a huge one to take. |

RE: Charlie Wyke
How close is he to first team football with Middlesbrough? How longs a piece of string?
I suspect he is a good distance away from first team action with Juke, Miller, Williams, Ledesma and McDonald ahead. Main of fit would be ahead also. And then the likes of a formation change would happen before Wyke would be considered (allowing Reach/Park maybe halliday and Haroun to be involved high up with a single striker) A loan would be a fantastic move especially to league 1 level. The kid has put a lot of weight on and cannot be bullied physically. His touch would be tested and he would learn so much from it if he plays. Would be a great oppertunity for him i believe. He hasnt scored as much as you think actually. He had a quiet first year, then a 20 goal second year and then a quiet injury hit year last season. That 2nd year where he 3was scoring for the U18s and reserves really is what got him noticed by people and thats where a lot of the 'hype' comes from. Still a talented player, dont get me wrong. |

Don't we have one of those...things? You know. When you have a smaller club sorta support you and they get the pick of the loanees.
Arsenal wont spend more than 16 million pounds on 1 player this transfer window.

RE: Charlie Wyke
Cheers for that Powlay.
I'll rephrase the question though. Rather than how close he is, I'll change it to how close he is to being READY. So ignoring the options we have, what does he need to work on most to make the step up? A striker is really the only position we've failed at bringing through from our academy. We've got goalkeepers (steele, Jones, Turnbull) full backs (bennett, McMahon), centre backs (hines, williams, Bates, Wheater), CMs (Cattermole, Smallwood, Williams again?), wingers (Downing, Johnson, Morrison) but never a striker. Is there a problem here that we need to look at? We've produced the talent in Graham (albeit not so much in terms of quantity relatively), but not been able to bring them into the team. Is there an obvious reason you can think of that could be behind this? |

I think official links which involve payments etc. are against FA rules (although not on Footy Manager) but I suppose a gentleman's agreement with another team wouldn't be impossible. I've always wanted us to have one with Hartlepool, it would be beneficial for both of us. Players wouldn't have to move (although this can sometimes help) and it's only a league below us. |

RE: Charlie Wyke
Charlies new found upper body bulk will help keep the thuggie centre backs further away from him. That's good but he's been injured already.
He is at that difficult age where a lot of our academy products have a poor injury record. First team ? this season ? no, I don't think so. Next season in this division, maybe. Another loan might well be a good thing. He did well in a poor Kettering Town side last year apparently but largely as a midfielder ! This year if he goes, I'd like to see him in League 2 or maybe league 1. However with the standard of the u21 league we're in he might be better off staying with us this year and look for a shorter loan towards the business end of this season. Will he make the first team ? Yes probably but you'll have to be patient |

He wont be going to Hartlepool on loan as they have just signed Ryan Noble again from Sunderland today.
A loan move would be great for Charlie. |
