England's future??
After last nights disapointment what do ppl think the future has in store for England?? When nations have reached a certain undesirable point their coaches/managers seem 2 make brave/big decisions on how their country is going 2 proceed. The Germans brought their kids in, Brazil over the years have dropped star names like ronaldinho, Robinho, kaka etc.
Now I'm not saying we have a hatful of world class players but with what's available I'm sure we could perform better than last night. The line up in midfield was a big concern for me, where was the pace and attacking intent??!!
Things were suppose to change after the last 2 international tournaments but I don't see that happening, does anyone else??
I believe we could produce a better team with the right system than trying to play the "best" players and if we won't to improve I think we need to see that. Club football is a players bread and butter so why was cleverly playing left wing!!

RE: England's future??
I think for the time being it will be more of the same. We still seem to rely on lampard, gerrard and Cole from svens golden team and until they drop off, we'll struggle to move forward.

RE: England's future??
England need to build a team, it's as simple as that. The players that need to be brought in need not be world class or ever VERY good, they just need to work. There are many average players who just seem to suit international football, Crouch being one and players like this need to be found and used.

Also, we need to get out of this defensive mentality. I mean come on, Cleverly AND Milner out wide?! It's like Mogga with name players.

Downsouth for El Presidente!

RE: England's future??
gotta make some changes now to avoid future disappointment. Your goalie and defense's future is secure, the future up front looks like it could be interesting but the midfield could be real trouble.

Arsenal wont spend more than 16 million pounds on 1 player this transfer window. Big Grin

RE: England's future??
Just think we should accept that we are way behind a lot of other National teams and save for a run of outstanding results we will not be winning a major competition for a while....lets face it we still can not get past taking penalties when it is down to a one on one situation

RE: England's future??
After the world cup it was said that we'd be making wholesale changes to get a team ready for brazil. There was supposed to be a 4-6 Year plan being developed, with southgate/brooky doing grassroots/academy stuff..

Whilst the spannish system will never work for us a more german approach would be beneficial to us. The FA have once again failed to deliver on the promises. useless tossers

If the FA went the German approach Ox would be playing at attacking midfielder to suit the national team. Never going to happen now, he will be just another winger in a long line

RE: England's future??
For me it is our continued insistence on using players who are in the twilight of their careers and offer very little these days. It's time to look to the future as Downsouth just said and start with players who will be playing together for the next few tournaments. Out with the old and in with the new. The last thing we want is to get to the tournaments by qualifying with too many of the old players who then won't feature, to introduce their replacements into the tournaments with very little experience.

Those replacements need to be playing now. Getting used to each other, getting used to the style but most importantly gaining vital experience.

I suppose we are seeing players like Chamberlain being introduced and the likes of Cleverly. But it just seems like we are still sticking to the same old failures we've had for years lke Gerrard, Lampard, Cole, Rooney.

Out of those 4 players I've just named, I'd maybe keep Rooney in there, but something has to change in the way we use him because he is not particularly effective for England.

RE: England's future??
Just cant see that BDS. OX will stay a winger because it suits arsenal and the FA wont do anything about it. Gibbs just doesnt look like he will make it big to me and the same for Mceachrean. though I obviously could be wrong. And I think Wilshire will be the next Hargreaves not the next Stevie G. Luckily Baines Kelly and Jenkinson are in the mix, but the midfield will be a problem
