The Fans "Friend"
Am sure some of you will remember my comments regarding George Friend when I saw him at the Millwall game and how I thought he was the best attacker on the field well it seems as if others are taking note of him and I just wonder if there is more to this versatile player.

Good blog by AV as follows: http://anthonyvickers.boroblogs.co.uk/20...st-33.html

I think he is fast becoming the signing of the season!

I am willing to admit he shows a good willingness to go forward but the jury is still out on him defensively for me. I do think he has been responsible for far more than one goal conceded this season so he still has a bit to improve upon.

He used to be a left winger at Wolves so that is probably why he's so good at going forward.

This. He is full of effort and running and is dangerous in space but boy does he have work to do in defense. He has played a few attackers onside in the games I have seen.

Arsenal wont spend more than 16 million pounds on 1 player this transfer window. Big Grin

Well that explains a lot. Maybe we shouldn't be so quick to criticise him for his defensive frailties, if he is more used to getting forward. Hopefully he can learn to be a better defender with time.

Don't recall where I was,
When I realised life is just a game,
The more seriously I took things,
The harder the rules became...

Thirded. It taken a while but I now rate him better than Bennett. Problem is Bennett he used to stand off attackers angst let then come onto him, friend has the opposite problem of forcing the winger to make his mind up by getting a foot in which has led to him being left on his arse quite a lot.

RE: The Fans "Friend"
Certainly one of my favourite players. What he has shown in quite a lot of our games is that a player who can carry the ball well can be very effective in the Championship. There are times when he just seems to walk past players. He isn't blessed with absolute speed, but you'll notice he has a knack of shifting the ball into a place which makes it harder for a defender to get and gives him to time he needs.

I understand what people say defensively, but he certainly defended well on Tuesday. I also think he benefits from the energy and movement of someone like Haroun in front of him.

It is also notable that he has 3 assists already this season.

RE: The Fans "Friend"
Every match I've been to this season he has been impressive and when you look at the price we bought him for and the price we sold Bennett for.. Don't get me wrong I like Bennett but the difference in price isn't justifiable for me. Bit of shrewd business Smile
